Sam and David,

As to the question about leading without, well, leading, Bob replied:

Just my humble opinion: find the gift in your body that God has made a teacher
or Elder or Deacon and have him/her/them teach (a he if Elder or Deacon). If
you need someone to preach, find the gift, the evangelist or apostle, and have
him/her/them preach. If you need someone to encourage, find the gift that is
the prophet and have he/her/them build up the group.

Whatever your need is, at the end receive feedback and observations from the
rest of the body. Build your group around the structure given by Scripture, and
the Holy Spirit will reaffirm His Presence by spotlighting Christ and making
Him known.

God bless you and the church, David. I'll very much be praying about this
situation,

TC

Dear David:

You may want to consider speaking with Robert Fitts. In his ministry, as he
travels he teaches a form of 'discussion bible study' which really removes a
visible 'leader' doing the teaching. Last year Robert came to us, and I had
the same concerns and issues you do. So, I watched Robert as he explained this
method of study.

It is quite simple and flows with the desire of our hearts. There is a
FACILITATOR who keeps the flow moving. He does not lead, but keeps the flow
going when it may bogg down. The goal is to have a particular passage (usually
a chapter)and the Bible is read by each person (although people who do not wish
to read can pass the Bible to another person) and people comment on the verses
(usually 4 or 5) and can throw out questions (not to the Facilitator, but the
group)and people have the choice to answer or not answer the questions. The
whole process is one that is based on letting the Holy Spirit give guidance to
what takes place. We have often had some people make some 'off the wall'
comments, but as they are allowed to share, without being corrected, by the
time the whole reading and discussion has taken place, what was 'flaky' 'fell
to the ground' and the Spirit taught the gathering through a safe interaction
where no one was judged and everyone got to participate. At the end the
facilitator usually summarized the overall things that were shared.

I really believe this is valuable in a couple of way.

1. The Holy Spirit is in charge and eveyone knows it.

2. The facilitator guides traffic, stops conflict or intense debate and
continues to move the discussion forward.

3. People realize that the Holy Spirit is giving revelation as they lean on
Him and trust Him in the dialogue and discussion.

4. There is no 'wrong answer' or 'stupid comment', and usually what appeared
to be 'flaky' fell to the ground and was forgotten about at the end.

5. A whole passage of Scripture is studied, and everyone participates, and
everyone receives through the interaction.

6. The facilitator wraps up at the end in giving a BRIEF summary of what the
PEOPLE shared. Facilitator leaves their knowledge, expertise, and opinions OUT
of the discussion.

I have found this very beneficial.

Blessings,

Sam

Dear list,

Thanks for all your advice, they have been well received.

I will be sharing your comments and suggestions with the group.

I think I will include all your suggestions into the meetings. It is a nice
variety and I think they all will work.

Concerning the idea to share from someone else's teaching (watchman Nee) this
is a good idea too since I have a lot of material from different preachers of
old who were very sound ( Lake, Wigglesworth, Finney)I will try to get some of
Nee's work.

I have so much of their messages that I dont think we will ever get through all of them.

I guess the task (for want of a better word) of allowing the Spirit himself to
direct and lead lies in the cohesiveness of the group and how connected we are.

For new believers I feel they would need to go through a period of teaching (
eg. operation of the spirit , gifts of the spirit etc.) I learned to minister
in the spirit by observation as well as the word. Also by releasing myself in
situations where I felt free and at liberty to minister.

I can see how by combining all your suggestions each person will eventually be
able to supply.

This is Great!!!!! I love it!

Thanks a lot.

I will tell you what happens.

magazine needs some help on an article

Hi everyone,

We are doing an article trying to describe all sorts of different ways that
house churches are starting. Eg in home, schools, offices, bars, prisons,
coffee houses, with Christians, with non-Christians, with seekers, with
new-agers!! You name it, we are trying to find what the Lord is doing out
there.

Anyone getting this who has an interesting start up story of a home church,
could you put it into 250 words or less and get it back to me at the email
below by Monday, March 18th. That would be a huge help to us, and in time a
blessing to all of those who get the magazine.

Thanks,

Tony tdale(--AT--)thekarisgroup.com www.thekarisgroup.com

Hi folks,

Bob wrote: Keith, please do a prayer email over all of us who want more of that heart of God imparted to us so that we'll know how much to speak and how much to silently affirm and release those who have been entrusted into our
care.Please?

Well I'm not at all shure about prayer emails (I'm not even sure if I have the
Big Guys email address) Normally I just talk and he listens, then he talks and
that's a whole lot better.

BUT. I talked, and He said it's not too weird, so here Goes:

LORD, I have learned to love the guys and girls on this list, and I want the
best for them and those that they serve. Please lord give them the grace to
shut-up so that you can speak boldly through the timid voices. Give them wisdom to speak-up whenever the enemy raises his head. And give them gentle hearts to serve the sheep as you have shown, leading by boldly walking ahead and trusting the sheep to follow in response to love. Give grace to the churches, so that as we plant, we can move on knowing that they have a better teacher in you. Amen.

Blessings,
keith

Subject: [NTCP] I am back, My Intro again folks...

Well My name is David Cummings I am 22 years old. I live in Denver,Colorado. I
have been around the bush as far as church goes and I worked with the church of Christ as a associate minister and later with Jesus People/Evangelical Covenant Church for a short stint as a church planter and later as a children's pastor.

I grew disatisfied with all of that un needed structure that only seemed to
prevent me from being loved and loving others. I have been involved in a lot of churches but this "house church concept'" is one that God showed me through so many sources and ways. I planted a house church that fell apart. And God has since told me. "David quit planting churches and start planting the Love of Jesus"

He's right. It's that simple. So I was burned out after awhile even after I
started house churchin and well I took some time to get refocused and go back
to my first love.

My girlfriend is from Tel Aviv,Israel and she like myself has a real passion
for the Palestinians and Jews, She is Jewish and she is a Christian. She is
currently in Israel and we talk everyday. I am excited about what God is doing
through her. She is back visiting family and spreading God's love.

I recently partnered with a long time "house church" friend in China who I went to college with a few years back. And we decided to start a website aimed at people searching for House Church. The website will soon be hosting an online Simple Bible College, and various online seminars and conferences which may include some house churchers from China, as well as some of our friends from the states including Robert Fitts. May God bless all the saints.

Please stayed tuned at: http://www.housechurchdigest.com
